Add tashkeel to Arabic text, free
Paste Arabic text and press Add tashkeel to get the vowel marks (harakat) in seconds: fatha, damma, kasra, sukun, shadda and tanween. It's free with no sign-up, and it runs in your browser, so your text is never sent to a server.
Runs on your device: your text is never uploaded
How to add tashkeel with this tool
- Paste or type Arabic text in the first box. You can do 5,000 characters at a time; split longer text into parts.
- Press Add tashkeel. The first time, the engine downloads to your browser once; after that a paragraph takes under a second.
- Check the result and fix anything: put the cursor after a letter and pick a mark from the buttons, then copy the text.
Which marks does it add?
The tool adds the eight marks people mean by tashkeel (also called harakat or Arabic diacritics), on every letter that needs one:
| Mark | Name | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ◌َ | Fatha (a) | كَتَبَ kataba |
| ◌ُ | Damma (u) | يَكْتُبُ yaktubu |
| ◌ِ | Kasra (i) | بِسْمِ bismi |
| ◌ْ | Sukun (no vowel) | قُلْ qul |
| ◌ّ | Shadda (doubled) | مَدَّ madda |
| ◌ً | Fathatan (-an) | كِتَابًا kitāban |
| ◌ٌ | Dammatan (-un) | كِتَابٌ kitābun |
| ◌ٍ | Kasratan (-in) | كِتَابٍ kitābin |
If your text has no hamzas at all, as is common when typing on a phone (اصبح, الى), the tool suggests the missing ones (أصبح, إلى). If your text already has hamzas, it leaves your spelling exactly as it is.
How accurate is automatic tashkeel?
We tested the tool on modern news text vocalized by experts, the WikiNews benchmark: about 16,000 words. It got about 83% of words fully right, and about 90% if you don't count the last letter's mark (the grammatical case ending).
So roughly one word in six may need a fix with full case endings. Treat the result as a mostly accurate draft, and check it before you print or record it.
Where it usually goes wrong
- Imperative verbs: «اكتب» (write!) can come out as «أكتبُ» (I write).
- Names and foreign words, such as people's names and brands.
- Case endings in long or complex sentences.
- Words with more than one reading, like «عِلْم» (knowledge) and «عَلَم» (flag), when the context isn't enough.
- Dialect: the model was trained on Modern Standard Arabic.

When to use Pause on word endings
Read aloud naturally, or in dialect, Arabic speakers usually don't pronounce the case ending on the last letter; they stop on it with a sukun. This option vocalizes the text that way, and it also removes the hardest part of tashkeel, so you'll have fewer errors to fix.

How to type tashkeel yourself
On the Windows Arabic keyboard, type the letter, then press Shift with one of these keys:
| Shortcut | Mark |
|---|---|
| Shift + Q | Fatha |
| Shift + E | Damma |
| Shift + A | Kasra |
| Shift + X | Sukun |
| Shift + ` (ذ) | Shadda |
| Shift + W | Fathatan |
| Shift + R | Dammatan |
| Shift + S | Kasratan |
The same shortcuts work in Word. For a long text, add tashkeel here, then copy and paste it into Word; the marks stay as they are.
Your text stays on your device
The tashkeel engine downloads to your browser and runs there, so your text isn't sent to us or anyone else, and we don't store it. We only record anonymous usage numbers, such as character counts and processing time, to improve the tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Arabic tashkeel tool free?
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up and no daily limit. It handles up to 5,000 characters at a time; split longer text into parts.
Does it work on dialect?
The model was trained on Modern Standard Arabic, so it gets many dialect words wrong. For dialect text, turn on Pause on word endings, then fix dialect words yourself and spell them as they're pronounced.
Do you store my text?
No. Tashkeel runs inside your browser once the engine has loaded, and your text isn't sent to our servers.
How do I remove tashkeel from Arabic text?
Paste the vocalized text in the first box and press Remove tashkeel. You get the same text without vowel marks; hamzas and letters stay as they are.
What is tashkeel in Arabic?
Tashkeel (تشكيل) is the set of small marks above and below Arabic letters that show short vowels, doubled consonants and the absence of a vowel. Everyday Arabic is written without them, which is why the same word can be read more than one way.
